Screaning Plagiarism

All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Wacana Sosial Nusantara (Sosial) are checked for plagiarism using Turnitin. Any paper containing plagiarism or self-plagiarism will be immediately rejected.

This journal upholds strict standards of academic integrity and expects authors to comply with international best practices. Plagiarism is defined as the use of ideas, data, or words from other sources without proper acknowledgment. Whether intentional or unintentional, plagiarism is considered a serious violation and cannot be tolerated in scholarly publications.

  • Use of Ideas: When adopting ideas, interpretations, methods, or conclusions from other works, authors must provide appropriate citations. Even if the idea is further developed, the original source must still be credited.
  • Use of Words: When reproducing wording from another source, both citation and quotation marks are required. Direct quotations of more than three consecutive words must be clearly marked.
  • Use of Materials: Any text or graphic material beyond “fair use” (more than two to three sentences, or any image/figure) requires explicit permission from the copyright holder and acknowledgment of the original source.

Levels of Plagiarism and Editorial Actions

  1. Minor Violation
    • Description: Small sections copied without proper citation, no significant data or ideas taken.
    • Action: Authors receive a warning and must revise the manuscript with proper citations.
  2. Moderate Violation
    • Description: Substantial portions of text taken without proper citation.
    • Action: Manuscript is rejected and authors are prohibited from submitting to the journal for one (1) year.
  3. Severe Violation

    • Action: Manuscript is rejected and authors are banned from submitting for five (5) years.

The Editor-in-Chief, together with the editorial team, determines the appropriate measures according to the level of plagiarism identified.

  6. For peer-reviewed sections, the author has ensured that the manuscript complies with the requirements for a double-blind review.
